Go Dante bids for an unprecedented third consecutive win in the Imperial Cup and, despite lacklustre performances at Windsor and Newbury on his last two starts, he has to be respected now back here following wind surgery. Classy Flat performer Mondo Man retains plenty of potential off his jumps mark having been on the wrong end of a pace bias in his sole previous handicap in this code, but preference is for the novice TOP JIMMY (nap). He shaped when second to Scorpio Rising (declared 1:50) over 2m4f at Windsor last time as though this drop back in trip could be a good move. Mondo Man is feared most ahead of Go Dante, while progressive contenders Gooloogong, Star Of Guiting and General Briar could also be involved.[Ben Hutton] Show less
Spotlight: Classy on the Flat; some warm tasks switched to hurdles last year, performing with credit more often than not; held up when fourth of 13 on handicap hurdle debut at Ascot (1m7f, good to soft) in December in a race that favoured those ridden prominently; has since easily justified 1-7 odds in Plumpton maiden (2m, soft); retains potential off this mark in view of Flat ability.
Spotlight: Returned to form with a bang when dropped back in trip and a well-backed winner at Newbury (2m, good to soft) last Saturday; now 8lb higher in a much hotter race but he's unexposed at this sort of distance and his stable is in tremendous form; has also won on soft ground; not ruled out.
Spotlight: He's been a long way below his best on his three starts this season and arrives with something to prove; however, there have been possible excuses on each occasion, namely the lack of a recent run, then the step up to 2m5f, and most recently heavy ground; now 3lb lower than when second in this 12 months ago (good to soft) and he's not written off in first-time headgear.
Spotlight: Reserve; unable to pose a serious threat across his three British starts, most recently fifth of eight over C&D (good) in January; however, perhaps today's softer ground will help this ex-French 5yo, who remains very lightly raced, and Harry Skelton rides him as opposed to stablemate and course specialist Knickerbockerglory; he might be worth a second look.
Spotlight: Front-runner; won at Uttoxeter (2m/2m4f, good/good to soft) in October on first two hurdle starts before third of five in Grade 2 here (2m4f, soft); again ran well when runner-up on handicap debut at Windsor (2m4f, soft) in January, when clear with Scorpio Rising who is declared for the EBF Final at 1:50, and this unexposed 6yo may benefit from the return to 2m; big player.
Spotlight: Three novice hurdle wins last year (2m-2m4f, good to soft) and second of 15 at Cheltenham (2m, soft) in November when back in a handicap; also runner-up at Taunton last month (2m, heavy; would have been closer granted a clear run) when back from a three-month break (and wind op); each-way player.
Spotlight: 16 races and over two years since last win; however, close third in this last year (good to soft) and he was runner-up to Star Of Guiting at Musselburgh (1m7f, good to soft) last time under Freddie Keighley; each-way claims.
Spotlight: 3-3 over hurdles last season, including a Listed novice win at Exeter (2m, good to soft), and following a stint over fences he reverted to this sphere with a promising second at Warwick (2m5f, heavy) four weeks ago; travelled strongly on that latest start and not ruled out now back down in trip.
Spotlight: 10yo who was well beaten at Windsor in January and pulled up at Newbury last month; however, he's had wind surgery since and there can be optimism he'll be a different proposition now back here, having won the last two runnings of this race (soft/good to soft) and also scored over C&D in December.
Spotlight: 10yo who had been struggling for his new yard this season but he's dropped down the weights and, with these cheekpieces applied, took a big step back in the right direction when fifth of 15 at Ascot (2m3f, good to soft) three weeks ago; he was in front jumping two out last time and could be suited by today's drop back in trip; might not be far away.
Spotlight: Off the mark at Plumpton (2m, soft) in December on third hurdle start and followed up on handicap debut at Newbury (2m, good to soft) in January, again making the running; 5lb higher in this more competitive race but he did it nicely last time and it remains to be seen where his limitations lie.
Spotlight: In good form on AW last spring and returned from an absence for 50-1 win at Kempton (2m, good to soft) last month in his first handicap hurdle; faces tougher opposition today but did it very easily and a 10lb rise may not stop him if he can confirm that latest promise; probably okay on soft ground.
Spotlight: Won at Musselburgh (1m7f, good to soft) in January on third stable start and followed up there in the Scottish County Hurdle (1m7f, good to soft); has also shown promise on soft; he needs to prove he can do it on this different track but his come-from-behind style provides optimism this 5yo still has more left in the tank, and he's only 3lb higher than last time.
Spotlight: Can make the running; merely mid-division in this race 12 months ago and she's inconsistent, but she returned to form with Grade 2 mares' win at Ascot (1m7f, soft) in January; runs off same mark as for close third in Scottish Champion Hurdle last April (2m, good to soft) and not ruled out each-way.
Spotlight: 5l eighth of 17 in this last year (good to soft) and he's improved this season with a win at Huntingdon (2m, soft) in December and a good second at Kempton (2m, good) in January; further progress from this 6yo can't be ruled out, but it's certainly necessary in this hot handicap.
Spotlight: Soft-ground maiden hurdle winner who impressed in 4yo handicap at Chepstow (2m, good) in October on reappearance; now only 2lb higher but he's failed to shine on his three outings since and needs to get back on track.
Spotlight: Irish-trained 5yo who failed to threaten on his last two hurdle starts last autumn; however, a break may have helped and he was a close third of 15 at Galway (2m1f, good) last August; his maiden hurdle win came on yielding to soft; has an each-way shout if back on song; tongue-tie is left off.
Spotlight: Ran okay when seventh in this last year and he reappeared with a win at Newton Abbot (2m1f, good to soft) in October; however, his subsequent form has been mixed (fences/hurdles) and Top Jimmy looks the yard's chief hope.
Spotlight: Having shown some good form in defeat in handicaps (on various ground) she made the breakthrough in this sphere in a small-field, mares-only race at Exeter (2m, heavy) a fortnight ago; had 5l to spare but she'll need to be better than ever to follow up in this much more competitive contest.
Spotlight: Won at Chepstow (2m, heavy) in February 2024 and this 9yo was racing for the first time since when winning at Aintree (2m1f, good to soft) in November 2025; he's a lot better than he showed at Newbury latest (2m, heavy; again failed to settle) but is hard to fancy on the back of that heavy defeat.
Spotlight: A refusal to settle proved costly when down the field at Musselburgh (1m7f, good to soft) on New Year's Day; however, it's highly likely there'll be more pace/cover in this field and the form of his handicap debut win at Huntingdon (2m, good to soft) in November worked out well; ran well on AW behind Constitution Hill a fortnight ago; could outrun his forecast big odds.
